Chemical Engineering

Andrew hails from Pelham, New Hampshire. As an undergraduate he developed his appreciation for interdisciplinary research spending three summers working in a variety of disciplines. Beginning at Auburn University he conducted biosensor research through a NSF-REU grant. The following summer was spent at St. Lawrence University funded by a Stradling fellowship. He worked to add beta-thujone to the list of chiral reagents available to the art of synthetic organic chemistry. Most recently he researched carbon sequestration and mineralization at Columbia University funded by a DOE–ARPA-E grant. Now working toward his doctorate degree in the Bredesen Center, Andrew researches heterogeneous catalysis for the synthesis of liquid fuels and valuable feedstock chemicals. He is also interested in and conducting experiments on in-situ catalytic pyrolysis. His main ambition is finding suitable pathways to close the carbon loop.
