Multiscale fluidic structure</strong><br />The integrated silicon pillar array is composed of 18 micron tall 800 nm wide pillars in a hexagonal arrangement. The interstitial spaces between pillars form an ordered network of nanofluidic channels. The bifurcating (tree-like) system of channels provide an interface between the network of nanopores and the macroscopic experimental environment.

Carbon Nanotubes

Atomic-Scale Growth by Pulsed Laser Deposition is used to grow oxide-based energy materials by stacking single atomic layers to design superlattice crystals suitable for discovering new functionalities. The function of the stack of quartz plates in this image is to control the growth process at the atomic scale by the precise attenuation of the incident laser beam.
